Are You Trying To Balance The Scale With God?

For most of my life I lived as if I had to “balance the scale” with God. I would do things I knew weren’t right, and then I’d turn around do something that looked good as if I could make up for it. I didn’t understand grace.

I was trying to manage my relationship with God instead of surrendering my life to Him.

Even at the times I was living furthest from God, I was still trying to find a way to “earn” His love, as if I couldn’t have been living in that freedom all along.

I thought if I “did enough Christian things” I could somehow make up for everything else. But God was never asking me to balance the scale. He was calling me to repent.

Eventually God worked in my life to where I started to see life differently. Looking back I see that God was working long before I recognized it.

My sin was still sin, my rebellion was still rebellion, and I wasn’t ever “earning” God’s favor while serving Him in one area while living differently behind the scenes. I needed grace.

We all need Jesus.

The gospel is that Jesus saves sinners.

Bring it into the light, repent, and believe.
