God Works In The Small Things | Walterboro SC’s October First Thursday Event
Last night at the First Thursday event in Walterboro, I couldn’t help but think about the impact of what something like this does for the community even if it seems small on the surface. Last night there were people coming together, families walking the streets, conversations, laughter, music, food, creativity, and just a time where people could be present with each other.
It also reminded me about how God cares about our faithfulness in the small things. Sometimes we can get caught up feeling like our impact only matters if it is big and if it’s noticed. We often feel pressured to chase a bigger platform, a bigger audience, more influence, or more numbers but God does not require a big platform to do something meaningful.
Jesus ministered to individuals, and sat with ordinary people in regular places. Scripture even tells us in Zechariah 4:10 “Do not despise these small beginnings.”
It means something when we invest in where God has planted us. And ministry doesn’t always look like standing behind a pulpit or speaking to a crowd.
There’s ministry in supporting a small business, or encouraging a neighbor, or just having a conversation with someone and listening to their story.
Sometimes our greatest ministry opportunities come in just by creating a place where people feel welcomed, seen, and connected.
Last night reminded me that there is real purpose in gathering together in community.
Don’t despise the small things. God is in all of it.
