You Did Not Remove The Valley (Poem)

Lord, I used to only see you in the prayers that seemed answered

In the miracle

In the breakthrough

So I searched for those things

And I kept missing the sound of your footsteps right beside mine

You were there when the prayer felt unanswered

You were there when my words failed me in grief

You did not ask me to be perfect before you sat beside me

You did not remove the valley but you did not leave me alone in it either

Your presence is the real miracle

Your hand has been on my shoulder even when I couldn’t feel it

Today I will stop searching for proof that you are near

Because I know that you always have been
