"Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." — Matthew 6:19–21

If you've ever spent time walking through the antique shops of Walterboro, you've probably noticed that every item has a story. An old clock that faithfully marked the hours for decades. A weathered Bible with handwritten notes in the margins. A rocking chair that once held generations of family conversations.

It's easy to spend our days collecting things that won't last like money, possessions, popularity, accomplishments, or the approval of others. None of those things are wrong in themselves, but they were never meant to be our greatest treasure. Everything this world offers will eventually wear out, be left behind, or lose its value.

The treasures of heaven are different.

Every act of kindness done in Christ's name, every prayer offered in faith, every word of encouragement, every sacrifice made out of love, and every soul pointed toward Jesus are investments that never fade.

God is far more interested in shaping our character than increasing our comfort. He values faithfulness more than fame, humility more than recognition, and obedience more than applause. Over the years, He forms His people into something beautiful, not because their life has been easy, but because they have continued to trust Him through every season.

Like a treasured antique, a mature believer bears the marks of time. There are scars from battles fought, lessons learned through hardship, and evidence of God's faithful hand.

One day, everything we own will stay behind. But the love we showed, the lives we touched, and the work we did for Christ will endure forever.

So today, ask yourself, “What am I really investing my life in?”
